I love Balloch, actually.  Not sure about living there, but I am going to look into it.  Loch Lomond is gorgeous and the play area is there for the kids.  WE are looking at the Ibrox area of Glasgow even though my hubby is a Celtic fan:)  lol  I have heard good things about the schools in that area.  I really am doing my research this time around!  It's going to be a tough move for my husband.
Met and fell in love with a Scotsman in early 2007.  Moved to Scotland early 2009.  Had to come back to the US in June 2009 to deal with idiot government employees who screwed up my daughter's passport.  Finally back in Scotland, March 9 2010.  Yes I did fly a 16 hour flight with 3 children and 2 plane changes!

Yes. There is also the village of Balloch just outside Inverness. You would not want to commute daily to Glasgow from there!

The visa office is in Ibrox, and I thought the area was really dodgy-looking when I was there. Not to mention it's got Ibrox in it. :P
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

Oh, is that where you go for passport inteviews, too?  I still need to sort the childrens' British passports but I know as first-time applicants they'll need interviews, probably - and the price increased recently, too.  £49 for a child's passport.

I lived in Ibrox and Cessnock for several years.
I dont have kids, so know nothing about the schools, but it's a fairly rough area.   I dont scare easily in general, but i often felt very uneasy walking on my own at night in Ibrox.

My DH is from Motherwell and my MIL still lives there. It isn't bad and from what I understand there are a couple good schools there. The commute in and out of Glasgow isn't too bad, but it can add up if you are on a budget. Hamilton is close to Motherwell and seems to have a few more housing options. Both towns might be worth a look.
