Dress shop recommendations

I have a feeling I'm going to be on here A LOT. Unfortunately I don't have any of my bridesmaids or family here to help me with all the fun details that you normally would have when planning a wedding. I'm pretty much solo.

I've been in London (W1) for about 2.5 months now. I need to find my wedding dress and would really appreciate any suggestions.

I think my biggest problem is that I will require a lot of alterations as I am only 5 feet tall and weigh about 100 pounds (7 stone). I think, depending on the dress I would wear anywhere between a 6-8.

Hey Bridget,

What style are you looking for? Traditional wedding gown (full length, with train, etc),
or shorter style, less formal style? If it's a traditional style you want, and a particular designer, you might do best to look up on the designer's website and check the stocklists and store locations around London that may carry them. Not all shops get to carry all designers. For instance if you know you want to look at Maggie Sottero dresses, on their website store locator for London the shops to visit are:

Searching for the dress is the most fun

Monsoon is having a sale right now, and they have some more casual floor length and short bridal dresses at 50% off right now. Like you said, you will probably have to have them shortened, but they do have some gorgeous dresses.

Pick up some bridal magazines, choose some looks you like and then do what tebs says!

If you're a tricky size, is a couture dress an option? Again, they'll all be featured in the bridal mags.

Thanks for the pointers. I have booked a few appointments for this coming week with some nice shops around my area. I'm so nervous for some reason... I wish I had my bridesmaids with me. Its not as fun going solo but I guess I'll just take pictures and send them to m mom.

These may be the ones you're looking at (and I have no clue on style/quality/price) but there are several shops on Chiltern Street just east of Marylebone High Street.
