Driving Instructors/Schools - how to choose?
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:51:16 PM »
I am determined to begin driving lessons next week and am currently being stalked by about 3 different instructors whom I contacted for their rates.  They are all pretty similar in price; varying only about 3GBP each hour, so I dont know what else I should be looking for when choosing one.  Any ideas?  Or would anyone be willing to share (either here or PM) a school they recommend?

Thank you!

I used BSM--partially because they had an office that I walked by ALL the time, so it was easy to pop in and check them out and partially because I noticed that, out of the millions of driving instructors around Manchester, the cars were always well cared for and the students weren't pulled over to the side of the road in tears (something I DID see a few times on my walks to work!  :o).

I was really pleased.  I lucked out with an excellent instructor, but, if I hadn't, there were a LOT of other people to choose from and switching would be dead-easy.  It's been a bit more expensive, but I don't mind paying a bit more to feel safe and comfortable.

Okay this wont help cause I will give the opposite point of view from previous poster. I went for an independent instructor-- cause I like to support the little guy. I was happy with mine, my daughter had one that cancelled a few times on her which was annoying. I think bottom line is just choose one and give them a  go but don't be afraid to switch if they don't feel right for you. I think so often we tend to give people more time to see if they are okay, then you think you have invested time with them and you don't want to switch. Try one for a lesson or two and trust your instincts. What works for one person might not work for another!

I was the same as HG and went for an independent instructor. He was great and I passed the first time around.
