Warm weekend away
« on: February 14, 2010, 09:30:57 PM »
BF and I are looking to have a long weekend away in the next few weeks (probably early March).  Given the winter in England, we are looking for some place sunny and warm -- about 2 hours by plane.

Any suggestions are most welcome!

A friend of mine who studied abroad always recommends Barcelona or Seville to me.  She said it was very warm.

We've (and by we, I mean I because dh is not good at making travel plans happen) have been looking hard at Lisbon, because I think I'd prefer to go to Portugal, don't know why.  But there are my suggestions.  Sounds like fun.  Let us know where you decide.  :)

I can recommend lisbon also.  We went there in April 2008 for a week and had a wonderful time it was about 8c at night and 14 to 18 c during the day there.  We did have some rain but it wasn't bad...

I have been to Lisbon and it is lovely!

Mrs Robinson, which parts of Spain would you recommend?  I know almost nothing about it (for shame!) but it probably makes the most sense.

Anywhere in Much of Andalucia, which I love, and would be the warmest for the time of year.  Seville is fabulous, but if you want to be right on the coast - Cabo de Gata is lovely (fly into Almeria), also Cadiz on the Costa de la Luz.

Malaga is nice too!  But good lord - stay away from places like Torremolinos along the Costa del Sol, unless you want to be in package resort hell with all the other British tourists eating fish & chips, etc.  :P

If you want more advice on Spain, let me know - because we go about every other year or so!  Some areas are warmer than others (it's a big country!), but I've been to Barcelona (and Figueres near there - birthplace of Dali), Madrid & Toledo & Segovia in Castile, and much of Andalucia:  Malaga, Granada, Las Alpujarras area, Cabo de Gata area (San Jose), Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Seville, and Ronda.

And there's still so many places there we have yet to explore!
