Buying replacement parts for US laptop in UK
« on: September 01, 2009, 06:18:52 PM »
I need to purchase a replacement power cord/adapter thingee for a Dell laptop.

I've found one on AmazonUK, but wonder if the plug (into the laptop) is going to be the same.  I've bought parts before online that didn't work so I'd prefer to buy one in a shop, but I 'm not sure if its time and cost effective to have to hunt down random parts when all I need to do is click and pay.

Anyone know if there going to be be a difference in plug sizes between UK/US products?  Are they all coming from the same place, built the same way?

Can you order it from Dell UK?  My US Dell laptop had 2 cords cr@p out back in the US, and I ordered replacements directly from Dell.  The last time was right before moving, and I checked on the Dell UK site to make sure I could order the one for my particular model of laptop from there, should the need arise.

I looked at the Dell UK site, but the brick looks different and I can't see the adaptor plug thingee.    [smiley=blank.gif]

Suppose it should work, but I've supposed as much before.  Is that to be expected?  Thanks for the tip, 0phinky.

The replacement brick looked different for mine, too, but it was for the same model name/number.  I'd give Dell a call and just ask.  I'd probably call both the US and UK Dell customer service numbers and see if they agree, because I'm paranoid!   ;)

Got a Dell brick for my hubby's US dell at Maplin, and it worked fine.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"
