Different situation, but my husband and I are both US citizens. He's lived here for twenty years, though, so he's nearly as British as a native, and since he's also a UK citizen now, the visa process for us was just like any UK/US couple.
I'm really glad he's from the US, though. He knows what I'm talking about most of time, and he definitely gets the political ideologies at war in the states, which is nice. He can see the US from the inside and out, rather than just one or the other.
Also, his accent is very faint - he talks like a "proper" American, if that makes any sense. It's just delightful.
