I'm not sure if this should be posted here, or another section of the forum or not so I apologize if this is the wrong place.
I just turned 23, and he is nearly 25. We had thought we would maybe have a baby or 2 of our own and then when I am 30, adopt a child.
A friend of mine from the USA(Indiana) was recently taken advantage of, and though she had taken the morning after pill within a few hours, she just found out she is pregnant. She thought it was the pill messing her system up, so she went to the doctor and found out she is 14 weeks pregnant. She doesn't believe in abortion and doesn't believe she can keep the baby.
She asked me if my husband and I would consider adopting(open adoption). I told her we would think about it, but that she had a long way to go yet and she should see how she feels about things once she gets settled and isn't in such shock.
I really think she will end up keeping the baby, just based on what she is saying (talking about names, wanting to feel the baby move, etc) but I was just curious if anyone knows the laws? Is it even possible for her to choose us to give custody to without going through an adoption agency? And, is it even possible with my being in the UK? I know how hard it was for me to get over here...I don't know if it would even be allowed to adopt from the USA.
Any help would be appreciated. We're just trying to explore all our options for now.
