Anything like Carmax in the UK?

Well, the title says it all.  I'll be looking for a used right hand drive MPV after our move and wondered if there were any auto superstores like Carmax in the UK.  I've not had much luck Googling anything like it.

In the past a feature they had in the UK was being able to go a car auction and buy and save big money.
The person we rented our self catering from told me he went down to docks in Southampton and bought a used that was just unloaded off the ship from Japan. It was a Toyota. He saved a lot of money doing that but that maybe a lot of trouble for you, I don't know.

Autotrader.co.uk is just like Autotrader.com and is more like a listing site & reviews.

If you're looking for something more like a direct online sales & financing try Availablecar.com but be prepared to pay through the nose for interest.

There is also E-bay listings for the UK.

Thanks for the tips.  Carmax is more of a used car superstore where they have 100s of cars you can go look at on their lots.  If you don't see something you want at one lot, you can look online at their other branches and if you see a car you want, they ship it in for you.  

Some place like that I was thinking.

Available car has 3 locations in the UK (there's one not too far from Derby in Castle Donnington) and their website as well so that sounds like what you describe Carmax as.

Carcraft (http://www.carcraft.co.uk/) are a chain of UK car superstores like you describe.  These type of places are about the most expensive way to buy a car (although they are a good way to see a lot of cars quickly when you are deciding on type, just watch out for the hard sell.)

Thanks for all the replies.  Those places do look pricey.  Probably should stick to the private sale methods.

Plenty here to choose from, yes, when you purchase on a credit scheme that is the most expensive way to buy a car. However, if you put down a sizeable deposit or better still have the cash, they're prices can be quite competitive indeed. You need to decide what kind of car to go for, take a look at the motoring purchasing and knowledge magazines in WHSmith, read up, make a shortlist and then go hunting for one - Privately can be good too, just make sure you get a AA/RAC inspection done as they're well worth it on a car you're considering purchasing.

Thanks.  Already know what I want.  2004-2006 Citroen C8/Peugeot 807 MPV diesel w/ manual tranny and I'd be paying cash.
