Paula's replacement on AI!
« on: September 14, 2009, 05:51:55 PM »
Sorry if this already got posted... but my mother of all people told me about this:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-tc-ft-ellen-idol-0911-0912sep12,0,3107732.story

Hmmmmmmm.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

What experience does Ellen have in singing? I don't understand the recent hiring of judges who have no experience in what they're judging.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

No, but at least I like her. Plus, she's funny. That Kara DiShutUpAlready may know about music and singing, but I hate her!

I think in Ellen's case, they aren't looking for any singing experience. Rather, they're interested in her entertainment experience as a whole. And yes, she's pretty funny IMO.

She did a guest judging on So You Think You Can Dance and was funny but also articulate.

It'll be interesting to see how she and Simon play off each other. I think she'll eat Randy for breakfast.

I saw that! She obviously took it seriously and had constructive stuff to say, even though she's not a dance expert.  :)

Hmm ... I'm very dubious about her as a 'judge'. Plus she annoys me! I will have to wait and see, but am not convinced.

Hope I'll be proved wrong!  :)

Honestly, I think the Ellen is as good a choice as they could have made.  No, she doesn't have singing experience, but I think they're looking for someone to step into the "nice mom" role that Paula played.  Between Randy and Kara's incoherent babbling and Simon's too-on-the-nose snarkiness, they need to keep the puppies and rainbows in there somewhere.

I think that she, more than the Babbling Twins, will be a good judge of an overall performance.  Which is pretty much what Paula did.

*sigh*  I'm going to miss Paula. :(

Hi to all of you AI fans! I'm starting to panic with the thought of not being able to watch it when I move to the UK... What's the story, do they get it over there? Is it a special channel?? Or, do you just watch it online?!

I think that she is a great choice. She seems to love the talent shows and when people have been defeated and she thinks that they are good, she always brings them on her show to give them a bit of PR.

It's aired on ITV2 in the UK - usually only a day or two after it is aired in the US. Although ITV2 is a cable channel, it is one of the 'Freeview channels' (you can buy a freeview box for a fixed amount and then you can watch a certain number of extra channels for free). Also, you can stream ITV2 from the ITV website (http://www.itv.com/) and also watch catch-up shows on there.

I don't think you'll have much (if any) luck trying to watch it online through any US websites because you can only access the programmes if you are located in the US - the sites can detect what country you are in from your IP address and if you are in the UK, they will not give you access to the online streams.
