Hubby and I found tinned black beans in a local shop today! I'm sure we have them in our tesco too. Just never checked the Afro-Carribean section. I'm so excited!

My Sainsburys had black beans for ages then it stopped. But yesterday I noticed the weird little carton of black beans...never seen that before but I was pleased to scoop them up.

Mine had them for ages then stopped carrying them, too - I'm going to have to look for these cartons next time I'm doing the weekly shop! :)

So they used to be in tins? I've never looked before - we didn't have a Sainsbury's anywhere near me in Wales. Maybe there was a gap of time between when they discontinued the tins and started selling the weird little cartons?

Yeah, they used to be in tins, along with the other tinned veg.  I'm hoping this is what's happened and they haven't stopped stocking them at ours altogether!

I'm in Belfast, and also have the trouble of finding quantities of white vinegar in any substantial amount that I could clean with.  However, I had the idea this morning to go and ask my local chip shop where they get their white vinegar from and/or if they might be able to sell me a jug of the stuff!  Certainly someone out there produces it in mass quantities!

Saw the cartons of beans, but no black beans in tins or cartons at our Sainsburys. I did pick up a bag of dried ones there, though, and will just cook those at some point.  :)

I seem to remember reading a Q&A thing with Kim & Aggie in some newspaper not too long ago. A reader asked if it was possible to buy large amounts of white vinegar (since K&A seem to recommend it for lots of things). I didn't read the answer, though. Sorry! But maybe a google would come up with it?

I couldn't find that newspaper article, but a couple of suggestions out there on the net for buying a quantity of white vinegar - try your local farm shops, or a Chinese supermarket.

Yes! Go to your farm shop ASAP! We were at our local farm shop today, and there was a whole corner devoted to pickling - tomatoes, onions, spices, etc. And ... 5 litre bottles of white vinegar!  :D
