Tick/Tapeworm Treatment
« on: October 05, 2009, 09:13:38 AM »
My dog is finally coming next Friday!  Woo!  Now to make an appointment with my vet in the US for the tick/tapeworm treatment... I sent some info by BA when I made her reservation, and it included this:

BETWEEN 48 – 24 HOURS PRIOR TO CHECK IN OF POINT OF ORIGIN YOUR PET NEEDS TO BE TREATED BY AN APPROVED VET WITH TICK & TAPEWORM TREATMENT (THE TAPEWORM TREATMENT NEEDS TO CONTAIN PRAZIQUANTEL AS AN ACTIVE INGREDIENT)

Her flight is at 8pm on a Friday... Can someone just confirm (hopefully) that this means that the treatment can be done anytime after 4pm on the Wednesday before (since check in is supposed to  be 4 hours before the flight ie. 4pm on Friday)?

TIA!

That's how I would understand it Mirrajay.

If it were me, I'd shoot for Thursday morning just be comfortably within that window.  When I got to the BA cargo office there was someone in line ahead of me and it took a good hour before we started to get checked in.

Don't know if that works for you or how picky they might be about the matter of a few hours due to technicalities.

Anyhoo, congrats on the immenent arrival of your pooch  ;D

I'd shoot for Thursday morning, too. Just to give yourself enough time incase your flight is delayed or you have to wait ages in line (it took me 2 hrs to check in because they spelled my name wrong on all the forms at the BA desk!)

Also, before you leave the vet's office, double check he wrote down BOTH the tick & tapeworm treatments! My vet did, however the vet of the woman next to me at Quarantine did not. She ended up having to wait 24 hours, slept in her car at Quarantine, and had to pay something like £90 for something that was already done! So, doublecheck before you leave.. just in case.

(And this was a USDA vet in Boston! Sheesh! My non-USDA vet did it correctly. ;D)
