U.S Passport for children
« on: July 05, 2025, 01:44:35 PM »
Hi.

My wife is American. We have 2 children and wanted dual citizenship for them.  I was just wondering if it is possible to do everything online or we have to make an appointment at the embassy in London?

Thank you

I'm sure people who know more will be along shortly but it's always nice to have somebody post.

As far as I know, your kids are already US citizens, that's not going to change.  Your question is about registering them and getting them a passport.  Don't fear a visit to the US Embassy, it's in a nice neighbourhood and you can see the cool skyscraper swimming pool.

In case it helps:

Citizenship Through U.S. Parents

There are two general ways to obtain citizenship through U.S. citizen parents: at birth [see https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-h-chapter-3 ], and after birth but before the age of 18. Congress has enacted laws that determine how citizenship is conveyed by a U.S. citizen parent (or parents) to children born outside of the United States.

Who May Qualify for Acquisition of Citizenship

The law in effect at the time of birth determines whether someone born outside the United States to a U.S. citizen parent (or parents) is a U.S. citizen at birth. In general, these laws require that at least one parent was a U.S. citizen, and the U.S. citizen parent had lived in the United States for a period of time.

In addition, children born abroad may become U.S. citizens after birth. For information and eligibility requirements for specific time periods, see the USCIS Policy Manual, Volume 12, Part H, Children of U.S. Citizens.
https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-h

You might also want to look at  https://www.usa.gov/citizenship-to-us-parent

As to doing the application for their passports online, everything I find points to you should  contact the Embassy.
