Just want to make sure I've got it covered...
« on: October 02, 2009, 04:48:20 AM »
Hi everyone :) My husband and I are finally moving to Scotland soon!!! Wow, what a process!

We have one cat who we'll be leaving behind until my sister brings him in March, that's when the six month waiting period will be over. :( I just want to make sure I have everything squared away...

First- the microchip was put in, read, and certificate given

Second- the rabies vaccination was given, microchip number is on the rabies vaccination certificate

Third- the blood test was given one month after the rabies vaccination and passed, original blood test results are in my possession

In my understanding, the only the left to do is have my sister take my cat to the vet in the 24-48 hour window before he travels for a tapeworm/ticks treatment. Is that correct?

Thank you very much!!

You also need to have the EC998 form filled out, which is valid up to 4 months before travel. It will need to be sent off to your state USDA vet who will confirm that all the steps you listed above have been done. (I believe your regular vet can fill out about half the form, and then the USDA stamps it as verified, but I haven't gotten to this step yet, so someone else can probably chime in with more details.)

I don't think it matters when this happens, though...i.e. you could get it done in February if he's going in March, and that's fine, you don't have to have it done 4 months out.

Other than that, yes, the 24-48 hour visit needs to happen for the tapeworm/ticks, and you'll want to check with the airline to see what extra info they need, if anything. Most of them seem to want a health certificate from the vet saying the animal is fit to fly, but some also want the APHIS 7100 form (I think? might be a different number).

Good luck! :)

Make sure you leave them with your sister! They fly with the animal.

And sometimes your airline has other requirements. I had to fax a form declaring my cat's value to someone in Heathrow.

Thanks so much! It all seems rather simple when I type it out on here, but to get to this point was not so easy, ugh!! It was harder to figure out all of the things for my cat that it was to get things together for myself!
