Well, just think of how tired and broke you would be if people came to visit you all the time! I've only had one visitor so far, my best friend last year, but we still spent a lot of money while she was here, plus going to see all the sites around here that we had already seen. Now, my best friend wants to come again next year, with a possible weekend in Paris I'd have to save money for, plus my parents, my great-aunt, and my grandma (squee!) might come for 2 weeks next fall. So you can imagine that although I am beyond excited to see every last one of them, coming up with the money to fund their visits is going to be a challenge (we will have to hire a people carrier to take my family around if all 4 of them come, plus money for food, attractions, and petrol). Plus, we won't have money or holidays left to go anywhere ourselves! So, there are downsides to having loads of visitors, too. Most people who come to see you don't plan to just chill at your house the whole time, it's a big trip for them and they want to see as much as possible. It can be exhausting showing people around and driving ages to get to tourist attractions they want to see and things like that.

Jewlz, you make a good point!  I realize how lucky I am when my mom came to visit a year and a few months ago.  We did drive out a few places in Yorkshire, but not much more than that.  And my MIL drove us all to Blackpool one day.  Other than that, my mom was happy just sitting in our back garden in the sun and going for walks around my neighborhood--there was plenty for her to see in our area.  Plus eating my hubby's yummy cooking, getting fish and chips from down our street, etc.  But, younger people would definitely want to see as much as possible!

Anyway, no-one else has come to visit though my cousin kept "threatening" to, she hasn't yet.  And one of my best friends not only hasn't come to visit, but no longer answers my emails or snail-mail letters which has surprised me and made me sad as well.  What's up with that?  :(

I expect that I'll have a hard time keeping friends and family away when I move to Scotland in 6 months.  At the cost of a plane ticket, anyone who doesn't visit would have to be nuts anyway.
