Mailing Mucinex from US to UK?
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:17:57 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've come down with an awful upper respiratory viral infection, and the only over the counter medication I prefer to take for something like this is Mucinex (extended 6 or 12 hour release Guaifenesin, tablet form).  It's my saving grace for respiratory infections, however, it's not available in the UK.  Does anyone know if it's legal to have someone in the US mail me Mucinex to the UK?  I checked the Royal Mail and USPS websites.  It looks like it's illegal to mail OTC meds from the UK, but I can't find anything that says it's illegal to accept OTC meds within the UK from the US.  For the customs label from the US, should the sender mark the package as over the counter meds?

Thanks so much!  I'm looking for some relief soon.

Sarah

Have you looked into just getting it on prescription here? Alleve was the only OTC painkiller than ever did anything for me in the states, so I just asked my gp to write a script for me. If you're having respiratory problems and you already know what works, that's a real shortcut from their point of view. And £7.20 is probably cheaper than the US cost + shipping.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I asked my GP for a prescription, but Mucinex (or anything similar to it) is simply not available in the UK, by prescription or OTC.  The only option for Guaifenesin (which thins mucous) is a Robutussin-like cough medicine, which isn't extended release or the same dosage of Guaifenesin as Mucinex contains.  It won't be a problem to get it mailed to me from the US; I just want to make sure it's not illegal to have it sent!  :)

Thanks.
