Cherbourg

I've been able to scrape up enough money for the four of us to go to Cherbourg next week.  We will only be there for a night, but the girls are really excited!
We won't be taking a car on the ferry, has anyone walked from the ferry terminal to the city centre?
Any general tips and hints would be appreciated.  Out of all of us the 6 year old is the best in French as she has been taking lessons for a while now.

Yes, I have, and yes you can!  It's just a 10 min walk from where the ferry docks.  Cherbourg is OK, not one of France's prettiest towns, but you'll have a fun day there.  Check out the street market, if it's on and have lunch in one of the cafes in the main square.  Our kids liked the aquarium - cite de la mer - it's a bit pricey, but probably worth it.

Thank you!   :)
We will be there on Thursday, which I believe is the market day.
We won't be there that long, but if we run out of things to do we will go to the Cite de la Mer.
I'm going to pack the travel sickness tablets just in case-I have been known to suffer from sea sickness as has our 6 year old.
