Crisis at the FA
« on: August 05, 2004, 05:51:14 PM »
Is it me or is the whole crisis at the FA headquarters completely and totally blown out of proportation?

I'm not an FA expert nor do I even closely follow football.  However, the way I understand it is the three people involved in this scandal are all single.  Is there something in their contracts that says they can't have personal relationships other FA employees?  And if there is, is this still not an OTT reaction?

I know this story is of interest to many people, but certainly all of the time and energy could be put into reporting  real issues in the world, rather than creating a media frenzy over peoples' personal lives just because it involves a celebrity (Sven).

I know there are people at the FA with egos they want to save and they are partly to blame.  But I also blame the media for giving it too much attention.  I get annoyed when I turn on the news and it is dominated by this type of story.

Okay, since you emphasised the word "single," I'll bite.

The problem is that whilst Sven is technically single, he is in a very publicised relationship with someone - and has been for 7 years.  Don't know if you knew, but Nancy left her husband for this guy.  I'm not her biggest fan by any stretch, but she does seem to have been more committed to this relationship than Sven has.

Plus, with all the demands that "unmarried partners" be given the same rights as married ones, this is case in point why that doesn't work.  They can be given the benefits of marriage, but not the responsibilities because they're "technically single"?  Hmmm...um, no.

I agree it's all over the papers because of the celebrity status of at least one of those involved.  It's also one of the most tawdry little affairs I've ever heard of an it only proves how much further into the cesspit the human race is headed.  50 years ago this woman would have been ostracised - now she's a "celebrity" as well.

Ick.

I think the real problem is not that Eriksson and the PA had an affair, rather it's more about the FA issuing an incorrect statement which lead them to look like bumbling plonkers.  Did Eriksson mislead them about the affair which lead to them putting out the statement?  Was the statement issued to head off the potentially damaging revelations about Palios and the PA?  These are the real questions to be answered because if the latter is true, then FA credibility now stands at zilch.  If the former is true, then Eriksson should go because he has made the FA look a shambles.

Based upon Sven's recent dalliance, he has a track record to not speaking about his affairs with the press.  My guess is that he would have remained silent on this matter too, even with his bosses.

In the scope of world events, this really is a piddly little news story, but sadly, the press loves nothing more than a sex scandal.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

No, I didn't know he was in a long term relationship.  I thought he had a stream of shorter term relationships, such as Ulreka (sp?) but based on what you said, it would appear to me now that she was a fling, too?.

And I heard that his most recent girlfriend left him... That's why I thought he was single, (technically or otherwise).  I assume now that was Nancy leaving him over this affair?    As you can see, I don't know all of the details because I tend to somewhat switch off when the personal lives of celebrities are dissected by the press, and I don't read tabloids.
I don't want to hear who's sleeping with who and when and who else and for how long on the news.  It's not news and belongs on E! TV where people who like that kind of stuff can choose to watch it.

If any good could come out of this case, perhaps it would be to publisize the perils of why this doesn't work.

It just doesn't interest me when people have affairs, tell lies, then worry about their public image

That's exactly my point of starting this post.  It's getting too much air time on the news and it irritates me!  ::)
