If you have one of those microplane zesters, they are awesome for cloves.  That way, you can scrape as much "fresh" clove as you need to into the recipe.

Mmm.  I picked up some pumpkin puree when I was down in London, so I may have to make some pie...

Asda only sells whole cloves, not ground.  They don't sell a mortar and pestle.  The pepper grinder I bought in lieu doesn't grind cloves for some reason.  I only need 1/4 tsp for heck's sake!  Asda is the only supermarket in our area and it doesn't have anything I need!!!

LOL!  Sorry, only just seeing this.  I ended up ordering on ebay.  They have ground cloves for pretty cheap :D
