I love Sainsburys rootbeer.   I buy it every time we are near sainsburys (25 miles away) Hehe - thats the best part of my sosns weekly trips to the doctors -3 big bottles of rootbeer. And only .59 per bottle right now. But the cream soda is awful!

I would kill for a cactus cooler right now though.

all this rootbeer talk also makes me crave rootbeer barrels...they were great to suck on when I was giving up smoking...  can not find anything that does the same success with my taste buds.

Rosie,

What is a cactus cooler?  Sounds interesting.  :P  Really, I am just looking for an excuse to eat more food that is awful for me and blame it on 'cravings'.  hehe

Sainsbury's rootbeer to me tastes of kids cough medicine - pure cack. I like a sharp rootbeer that isnt too sweet.

mmmm... rootbeer barrels. I used to get those for 5 cents each at the local icecream parlor... ah the days of rootbeer suckers, barrels and a melting mint chocolate chip ice cream dollop x 2 atop a big waffle cone on a hot summer day in NY. *dreams*

Ah but see I went at least 5 years without tasting rootbeer, so when I found the Sainsburys stuff it was the nectar of the gods.  All you have to do is get to the right level of deprivation first to really appreciate something. :)

Cactus Cooler BTW is an orange pineapple soda made by the Dr Pepper/&Up people. As far as I know it is only available is So. California, but I grew up addicted to it. Everytime we go back to the states it is the first thing I need (hence the years without rootbeer :) )   A Cactus Cooler float is almost as good as the old Del Taco orange shake.

Can you tell we aren't going to the states this year? We usually go in the summer so my craving levels are hitting their peaks right now.

Ah, see thats probably it. Ive only been here 3 years and I go back about twice a year - Grandpa always has a bottle or two of Dad's Rootber in the fridge for me when I arrive so I always have it within minutes of getting in the house - it really hits the spot and goes nicely with Grandma's home cookin. So I havent been deprived yet lol. I can imagine if I hadnt tasted a taco in 5 years Id gobble anything that remotely smelled like one. Well as long as Sainsbury's rootbeer makes you happy and fills that huge hole that exists in all our souls when we go without - hey, thats a good thing and more power to ya!

I'm not sure if you have a SPAR where you are but some of them carry A&W. I have found it numerous places here in Northern Ireland lately. Sainsbury's isn't so bad either. It only comes in 2 liters but when you crave it, you don't care how it's packaged or where to find it...you just get it

Where, where? Any Spars in Belfast you've seen them in? I have to admit I once paid a ridiculous amount for a 12 pack I found at Sawers. It was the best rootbeer I had ever had in my life and had to be at that price!  :-[

Last time I checked, probably a month ago, it was at one on Lisburn Road. They also carried Hershey products too. I haven't been there lately though. I think they were like 99p or so. Not cheap, but here at least.

When you're in town check Sawers, they have a lot of Hershey's candies - even have Hot Tamales, Butterfingers, the like - and A&W for 99p a can. I'll be sure and look for root beer when I'm in a SPAR, it's a nice treat.
