Hello from a future UK Yankee in Ohio
« on: July 28, 2004, 05:40:29 AM »
Hi everyone!

I love that I found this forum... just reading bits and bobs around the board has been fun and exciting.  I am a USC and DH is a UKC.  We have been married nearly 5 years and living in the USA.  We have been thinking about moving to the UK for nearly a year now and have finally decided this is something we want to do.  Both my family and his has been incredibly supportive of that decision.  My family can't wait to have us over there so they can visit.  Cool!   ;D

We met on-line in 1997, got married in 1999 and have lived in PA, FL and OH since we were married.  We are currently in Ohio.

Our decision to move to the UK is just lifestyle and having family and friends closer to us.  We are a bit isolated here in Ohio and family and friends are spread out all over and no body near by.  We also find that we just feel more at home when in the UK.  We love the USA and am sure we will miss lots about it... but hey... will be so much better when we have more holiday time and can come and enjoy all that we love about the USA on holiday.

Thanks for a great forum... look forward to getting to know everybody!

Best,
Christine

Thanks for the warm welcome Rhia, Kellie and Lynne!   ;D

Lynne, I am originally from Pittsburgh.

Looking forward to spending some free time here getting to know everyone as we prepare and plan our move.  Fortunately we are not in a hurry... so I will probably be asking questions for a long time!  ;)

Best,
Christine

I loved your story - I just met a wonderful Englishman online - today is our 2 week anniversary!! ;)  I keep reading the phrase "DH" what does that mean? BTW I was born in Pittsburgh as well!!! You are certainly blessed that your man moved here - my darling as a 9 yo son so I am not certain that could ever be an option - but as always - hoping for the best. What part of the UK are you planning on moving to? Anyone on this site familiar with the Woodbridge area?? That is where my sweetheart lives.  Best wishes!!!
Peace from the U.S.,
Amy

Can't say that I've ever visited Pittsburgh....just driven through it once.  :-\\\\

Ask all the questions you need as I'm sure someone here will be able to answer...that is if you haven't already found answers in one of the many threads here.

Best of luck and hope to hear more from you!

Kellie ~ Well you haven't missed a whole lot by just driving through Pittsburgh.  It was a good place to grow up but I don't plan on living there.   ;)

Amy ~ Good luck with your British sweetie!  I could not be luckier to have my my DH (Dear Husband), he is the best.  We have several US/UK couple friends that are in Ohio that all went through the immigration at the same time as we did.... and several of the men have children from a previous relationship.  Some brought kids with them and some did not... they are hard decisions but you do what you have to for love.  Good Luck and hope you enjoy getting to know your guy even more.  Where in Pittsburgh did you grow up?  I grew up in the south hills.

Helena ~ Glad you explained the DH thing... I have been using abbreviations for a long time and I forget not everybody knows what they are.    :)

Best,
Christine

DH/dear husband and DF/ dear fiancee - well thats sweet - is that something this forum uses or is that an English term?  I was born in New Kensington Hospital - and we lived on Pine Knob Dr. - but thats all I remember - we moved from there when I was still a baby.  Thank you for the good wishes - I think I am really going to need them - now I find out his boss is considering making him a partner in the firm -   :-\\\\ which is great for him - but not looking good for his considering a move here if that happens!!!  :\\\'(  - oh well - one day at a time.  Glad you are so happy.  Best wishes to you guys.

Peace,
Amy
