Flats and noisy neighbors

I don't really have any suggestions, but I can sympathize with your situation. Our next door neighbors fight from Friday - Monday. The grown son comes for the weekends, and the yelling starts when he walks in the door. Some days I just want to bang on the walls and scream back at them.

Also, we can hear their light switches clicking on and off and their bedroom doors opening and closing. It worries me sometimes to think what they can hear from our house, though I don't think we make all that much noise. But do they think the same thing?

Most were built in the 1880s as single family houses and then converted later on into individual flats by floor.

Thanks for the explanation.  What about when they converted these houses into several flats?  Are the 'new' walls separating these units made of concrete or dry wall?
