ROMANCING THE SCONE
« on: June 17, 2003, 01:28:25 AM »
My book, ROMANCING THE SCONE -- FINDING OUR WAY IN A LAND FULL OF BRITS, has just been published. (Available on Amazon) It's a humorous satire about an expat (me) living in the UK. I'm looking for book clubs and other forums to come speak and sign books. I'll be in the London area in mid October.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello, and welcome. :) Great title.

There's a links page for some other related websites. One thought, there's a radio show out of London, called the American Hour that might be worth contacting.

On that website, I also found this:
"Helen Elliott at helen.american.in.britain@cableinet.co.uk or call 020 8661 0186. www.americaninbritain.com

"American in Britain" also organises the annual "Relocation & Repatriation Conference & Exhibition" which will take place this year on Tuesday 1st October at The Victoria Park Plaza Hotel. The event is free to attend, so for further information and details on seminars which will run throughout the day, or to register for free tickets, please call Helen Elliott on 020 8661 0186."

That conference/exhibition may be useful to you.

There is also a festival, Americana International, July 11-13th, http://www.americana-promotions.co.uk, which also may be worthwhile. (tho not in october, I haven't checked to see where you're posting from.)

There is also Focus, which has various events/seminars.

I'll post back if I think of anything else. Best of luck to you.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Leah, great stuff! Really really helpful to him! I just hope Bill returns to read it...so often those who drop in to just advertise really don't care about the time and thought it takes to answer their (what turns out to be rhetorical) questions.  :-/

Thanks to all who responded. I found the suggested websites delightfully rich in possibilities. I've contacted many of them. The American Women of Surrey have already signed me up for a talk at their general meeting on October 14

To those who asked, ROMANCING THE SCONE is available on Amazon.uk.co and is probably sheaper ar 1stbooks.com

This thread is a bit aged, but I was curious about it when I discovered the book is self-published. Go to the following for a sample:

I think I prefer bill Bryson!
