Does BA no longer allow 2 checked bags per person? I looked at the site yesterday and thought I still could bring 2 bags per person, up to 50 lbs each.  ??? Unless I read it wrong....

Depends on the price level of your ticket.  The "cheap" coach tix (as opposed to a full fare coach ticket) are only allowed 1 checked bag for free.  I flew on the last day of 2 free bags last month.  ANNOY.  I thought transatlantic flights at any pricepoint would still qualify for 2 free checked bags, but nooooooooooooooooo.   >:(

I thought all coach tickets were the same price? How do you know if your's is a cheap one or not? I went through Netflights to book ours, so I imagine it's a cheap one. :(

I think the person explaining it to me was confused, and at the time, it wasn't spelled out on their website yet.  But I just looked, and now it is.  Boo.  Looks like it's just one bag for coach unless you're a gold or silver exec club member.

I flew on Oct 6 and it went into effect on Oct 7, so I panicked and called the morning of my flight.   :-\\\\

(sorry for the confusion, I should have just looked it up the first time!)

Virgin, for example, has one carry-on bag allowance -- that's including your purse, laptop, etc. Just one single piece. And depending on the airport they very serious about enforcing it.

Actually I flew with Virgin this year and I was allowed, my purse (a large one at that) and a rolling carry on suitcase which of course met the size limitations. So you are allow more than just one piece.

See below for info directly from Virgin's Website:

Economy and Premium Economy

Economy and Premium Economy passengers may take 1 piece of hand baggage on board. Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 13lb/6kg in weight.

ADDITIONAL CABIN ITEMS PERMITTED
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:

A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.
An overcoat or wrap.
An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.
A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
Infants food for consumption in flight.
A small amount of duty free goods.
Personal headphones may be used as long as they are fitted with the standard 3.5mm jack.

Hope this helps :)

I hate that they are changing to one bag on almost every airline!

I am shipping UPS - yes 1 box $$$ but do air freight and I priced 3 boxes against 6 boxes and it was only 130 more for the 3 more boxes.

It was like $690 for 6 boxes - they are uhual medium boxes at about 50 pounds a piece FYI..Cheaper then $200 for one bag....

Although I need to weigh them to average them out to 50 per box ;-)

The email doesn't specify, but all their other services list a maximum weight of 50lbs.

Yeah, I'm quite pleased with my $550 for up to 30 cu ft.  Currently, I have 12 boxes, so they're already under $50/each ;)

Nope, 6!  I'm having my stuff leave 3 weeks before I do, so it will arrive only 3 weeks after I do, which is plenty of time to make room for things!

Of course, now that I have 30 cu ft at my disposal, I'm taking more things that I had been planning on abandoning because the closer I push it to the 30, the cheaper the boxes become.

Oh Becca - GOOD IDEA!
I am using them now as well - UPS wont ship personal stuff air Freight <pout>

I spoke with Mark Upak and he was SUPER GREAT!

I can do 8 medium boxes (3 cubic feet each = 24) under 50lbs and 1 large (4.5 cubic) which totals 28.5 for that 595 and adding 4K worth of insurance is only $80 bucks!

As long as I equal out the weight we are good to go - Thank you Becca for this little bit of info - VERY helpful because I will ship mine early Jan 5th or so since it is 5 weeks.  How scary though to send it off to never never ocean land ;-)

UPAKWESHIP was great for me.  They really helped and when a couple problems came up from the shipping company they hired here in the UK, they sorted it all out immediately.  I was really happy with the deal they gave me and their service.  Do be warned though that you can't count on the timelines in the UK segment.  They got everything to the UK in the time they should have, but it then sat in some warehouse in the UK forever on mine.  My shipment ended up coming much later than it was supposed to, but it did all come and I only had one plate broken, which I could have packed better.
