Couples (BBC)

Is this show really on over in the UK and when and on what?

I watch it on BBC on Demand here in the US but my DH said he had heard of it and saw a bit once but has no idea when or where it is on...

I think it is funny as all get out and wondering if anyone knew?

Are you talking about Coupling? http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/coupling/
The series is over, unfortuantely, so it would only be repeats shown.

if you are talking about Coupling it is over. It was the show that Friends was based on. But you can but the 4 series on DVD. I did and I love the show. I bought the DVDs when I was in the states from Barnes and Nobles and I am sure you can get it in the states or get it over here in the UK

Friends wasn't based on Coupling as Coupling didn't come out until 2000.  They did try to make an American version which failed miserably because they tried to do it exactly how they did it in the UK, just set in the US.

You can definitely find it pretty easy on boxset, but it sometimes does come on late at night.  If you get digital TV, it's sometimes on demand.  My husband didn't see it until last week, but now he knows what British sitcom I was always on about.  Since he's a Dr. Who fan (and he loves the episodes Steven Moffat wrote), I might be able to convince him to get into it.  ;D

I have series 1-3 of Coupling on DVD and it's one of my favourite comedy shows (I didn't buy series 4 because I didn't think it was as good after Jeff left the show). I sometimes catch the show on Comedy Central or Comedy Central Extra (on UK digital TV), but it seems to be on pretty late at night (around midnight) if it's being shown.

It's actually not based on Friends at all - the only real similarities it has are that there are 6 characters (3 guys, 3 girls) and they hang out in a bar! Unfortunately, it was billed as the UK answer to Friends (i.e. a similar type of sitcom), which everyone took to mean that it was a UK version of it (which is like saying ER is the US version of Casualty :P)! The writer (Steven Moffat) actually based the show on his relationship with his wife (producer Sue Bertrue... hence the main characters being called Steve and Susan!) and has even stated that he was influenced by Seinfeld more than anything else in terms of the comedy.

I was living in America when the US version of the show was aired in 2003 and I'm really not surprised it only lasted 3 episodes before being cancelled... it was pretty dire :(. They basically remade the episodes word-for-word, but the comedy just didn't work (and it was apparently considered too racy for US network TV!).

I was confused about the Friends thing...but it was an awesome series and you are
right it wasn't that good after Jeff left.

Yeah, the last series (series 4) was aired back in 2004... I remember that it started on the BBC just after I returned from my year abroad in the US (I bought series 1-3 in the US while I was there).
