Where I learned football--England!  Though truth be told, I prefer the Dutch.  :)

I have a hard time supporting the English national team because the sense of hype around them -- from the tabloids, from a lot of the fans -- is so out of tune with reality, and also I'm not crazy about the World War 2 chants that still go on. But it's also a bit hard supporting the US team knowing that even if they win the World Cup, most people in the US won't even care.

I like the Dutch team too! And I like to root for an African team, this time I'm supporting Cameroon.

(I love football and I am very strongly attached to my premier league team, I just have an undeveloped sense of national loyalty :)

When our teams play separately, both of us will root for the "home" team (USA for me, and England for DH - but will support each country's team); however, when they play against each other? - no holds barred;) Like my DH said, "Country first..." I cannot wait, it's going to be fun! 8)

I'm just happy that the US has a chance this time!  Of course,

Seeing I do not know any of the players on the US, I am cheering on England :)

England of course! I said before the draw that I thought they'd be in the same group. As the game is on a Saturday we are thinking of having a BBQ and inviting a couple of other US/English couples over!

The US but only because I don't really reckon on their chances much and I know they'll get knocked out.

Ultimately, England, as I know it would mean so much more to the English to win.

This sounds fun...Barnsley is like 6 miles from me!   ;D

Gotta go with USA...unless they get knocked out...then I'll root for England.

Ahhhhhh! World Cup!

Favourite time. It's been ages since a good tournament - '08 just wasn't the same without England and I hate the Italian team, so '06 was a little bit of a fail.

It'll be epic, summer, pub, footie, singing the turgid old World War II chants - perfection!

Ideal scenario - an England/Germany final. But to be honest I'll just been over the moon if we ever face Germany.
"As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

They do not feel any enmity against me as an individual, nor I against them. They are ‘only doing their duty’, as the saying goes. Most of them, I have no doubt, are kind-hearted law-abiding men who would never dream of committing murder in private life."

- George Orwell
