Can I do my taxes while in the US?
« on: December 21, 2009, 10:59:04 AM »
Hello, thanks in advance for your help!
I am planning a vacation february-march and was wondering if I could just go to H & R Block and do my taxes while I'm there. If yes, what would I need to bring with me from the UK? I moved over to the UK, February last year.I worked for the month of January so I'll be getting a W-2 from that employer but what about the work I have done in the UK?

Also, I have a daughter so would I still be getting the tax credit I would normally get for her?

You can, but it can be expensive to do your US taxes at a place like H&R Block if you have foreign income.

The year I did it I the location closest to me had to send them off to a different office and get a specialist to do them, but things might have changed since then.

It would be better if you used the same firm to do your UK tax returns too as a low cost operation such as H & R Block will not understand the UK tax year, US/UK tax treaty, council tax, PAYE and the like - so you may not get the best answer.
