Big Girl bed?
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:12:45 PM »
Ever since we got home from Florida, Jean has had real problems settling down in her cot to go to sleep at night.  Like, serious, takes two hours to get her to bed problems.  We never used to have problems getting her to settle herself and the routine isn't any different than before we went to Florida.  While we were there she was poorly with a stomach bug and didn't want to sleep in the strange travel cot (not even with her normal baby doll and daisy the cow) so she ended up co-sleeping most of the week.  We've been back a week and a half now and have had to resort to tricking her by letting her fall asleep on one of us in the rocking chair then transferring her to the cot.

She's 19 months and not trying to climb out or anything but she cries and cries and rubs her eyes but refuses to lie down in the cot.  Today Alex bought a bed rail from mothercare and set it up on the single bed in her room.  In a couple of hours we'll offer her the option of big girl bed and see where this goes...keep us in your prayers!

Good luck! I hope she loves it! When we moved Noah into his big boy bed he loved it! I hope she has a good night!

Good Luck, big girl Jean!

Honestly, this is what we do with our 19 month old DD as her normal bedtime routine. A few times we've been able to just put her down in her cot, tell her night night and let her get herself off to sleep, but usually we just rock her to sleep and then put her in the cot.

Our DD had a rough patch a couple of weeks ago and I'm fairly sure it can be traced back to one of her teeth finally pushing through the skin. Thankfully we only have her molars left to go and that will be the end of the teeth.

We had a similar experience with DD when we went to the states in October....  When we got home we ended up getting DD a blow up bed and currently waiting on delivery of her "Big Girl Bed" - she's so excited!  I just hope it all doesn't go to pot once the baby gets here.

Good luck with Jean, unfortunately it's an issue that needs to be toughed out for you & DH sanity as well as for her benefit.  Fingers crossed for you!
