Sleep Talking
« on: January 19, 2010, 07:13:35 PM »
I came across this blog the other day.  I'm not sure where I found it, but I was reading the entries out loud to DH and we were in stitches for over an hour over it.  They were on This Morning a couple days ago.  She's from New York too.

http://sleeptalkinman.blogspot.com/

I rarely talk coherently in my sleep, but I've been known to throw punches, kicks and even try to push DH out of the bed when I'm stressed out.

Does anyone else have any good sleep-talking stories?

My old college roommate sleep talked all the time and it was hilarious!  Hmm, it's going on 17 years now, but I remember having a conversation with her about all the alcohol that was in her bed (There was none) and what she was going to do since she was not 21 and would get into loads of trouble if the RA caught her.  And could I transfer it all to my bed since I was 21.  It went on for a good 20 minutes and then she just went back to sleep!  It was a lot funnier then I'm telling it, but my memory is not great!

She also broke up with her boyfriend (Not really, but soon after) thinking I was him.  She was pretty nice about it all though :P

What a coincidence.

I recently saw a link to that blog from somewhere else and just posted it on my facebook page the other day.

I talk in my sleep, but I don't say anything really interesting.

I talk all the time.  None of it makes sense.

My mother, daughter and I have all talked in our sleep occasionally.  I've awakened myself that way at least twice.

The complete randomness of it is what makes it so funny!

My husband talks in his sleep but not as often as the guy in the blog and to be honest it's more of a mumble so I can't understand it most of the time. The only time I can recall what he said happened a few day before our wedding.

DH: "Watch out for the wedding metal"
Me: "wedding metal?...what the heck are you talking about hun?"
DH: *Shouting now* "The wedding metal just be careful!"
Me: Ok, I will. hehehe  ;D

??? No idea what he was talking about but it sure made us laugh the next day when I told him about it.  ;D

My husband does talk in his sleep occasionally. But most of the time he just does random movements...like the other night he kept swinging his arm up in the air like he was trying to flag down a bus...and he likes to smack his lips like he's chewing something...interesting that DD also will chew in her sleep and she's only 20 months!

When I was a smoker, I used to sleep smoke.  My college roommate would see me mime my normal movements when I smoke, and my breathing patterns would be the same as well.  Thankfully, I didn't ACTUALLY smoke, otherwise I'm sure I would have burned down the house.

All those stories about what people do on Ambien has scared me off of it.  Like, eating, whole sticks of butter?  Yuck.

One of my exes randomly started dictating a letter to me and his ex-roommate explaining about some nebulous something that was on the other side of a river, and how we needed to cross it... I found it hilaaarious.  Otherwise, nothing awesome to report on that front, but thanks for the link! :D

I am a sleep talker.  Mr A tries to get into conversations with me.  It's annoying when I really am awake and he thinks it's just me talking in my sleep.  For instance, last weekend I asked him to set the alarm for 11 am to make sure I was up to put dinner in the crockpot (we like our weekend lie ins. shut up!).  He set the alarm for 9 am for some reason.  I asked, "Why so early?" while trying not to come fully awake.  He thought I was sleep talking and was trying to edge me on to say something funny.  Of course, I ended up having to wake all the way up to say something that made more sense than "Why the bright light and big noise?"

I've woken myself up sleep talking.  I usually seem to be trying to figure something out.  Too often it's some huge maths problem that somehow applies to my dream.  I've also screamed and stuff, like really loudly.  Not really funny at the time (especially when it's something like in a B&B or when spending the night at friends houses), but after a few years, I can begin to see the humour in me coming to breakfast all mortified that the other guests have decided to eat at the same time as us.

These stories are great!  I love the miming ones too.

I've woken myself up a few times when I've been talking in a dream and then one word of what I'm saying I say out loud.  It's like a single word in the middle of a sentence.  And then I wake up halfway thinking 'did I just say that out loud?' And then I wake up all the way because I'm thinking about it only to see DH looking at me because I've just mumbled or yelled something and woken him up.
