I found American food!

I'm so excited...today in Fenwick's (Newcastle), we happened upon a display of American products! 

Graham crackers
Jif peanut butter (smooth and chunky)
Goobers peanut butter & jelly mixed together
Teddy grahams
Oreos
Karo syrup
Bone Lickin' Sauce
Zatarain's mixes
Betty Crocker cake mixes AND frosting in a tub!
saltine crackers (!)
maple syrup (NOT real syrup....you know, the fake stuff!)

and about 10 other things...can't remember them all...they were all ridiculously expensive, of course... (who wants to pay $8 for a jar of peanut butter?!  )

I actually shed a tear at the Karo Syrup...reminds me of my grandma cause she always has it in the pantry...just really nice to see that red and pink label over here!   

WOAH!! Thats fantastic! I really miss Saltines and Better Crocker cake mixes and frosting. When I was last in Texas I brought back two boxes of Lemon cake and two tubs of lemon frosting. I tried to ration them but they were both gone in 2 months!! *sob*

Ive found Oreos and Sour Dough pretzels in Selfridges. They also have small (and expensive) bags of Hershey's Kisses (both solid and almond), and boxes of Arm & Hammer baking soda! The Oreos were £6.00 a bag I think. But SO worth it.

MarsBar, Our TESCO had Betty Crocker cake mixes and the pots of frosting! I always have it in the house. The mixes are £1.99 and I think the frosting is the same price. Check Tesco online and see if you can get it there!

Yep - we've got a limited supply of betty crocker cakes and icings in our Tesco as well (also Bisquick in the same section) -

I also bought the bisquick but its impossible to buy pancake syrup! I found maple syrup with the ice cream syrups but it was really expensive. Im used to buying the kroger brand for 99 cents! I just ordered a bottle from the low carb megastore but I havent received it yet. Anyone know where I can get pancake syrup without paying a fortune?

I'll second this suggestion.  It's lovely!

Oh I have never seen maple flavored golden syrup. I have regular golden syrup in my cupboard but it hardly ever gets used. Its so sticky sweet. I do like the golden syrup Oats So Simple though

beware of the betty crocker brands sold in tesco, sainsbury.  many, if not all, are made in the UK and are often just that little bit different. also bisquick. not the same.....  costco has big jars of jif peanut butter for a more reasonable price. and quite a few other products that are the exact same as in US under the kirkland label.

In the ice cream topping section (which is not, for some reason, anywhere near the ice cream or freezer section in my local Safeway) you'll find a squeezable bottle of Lyle's syrup which is much, much easier to use than the cans; you'll also find a bunch of other stuff that can double as pancake/breakfast syrups.

And do check the baking section in your grocery shop, you'll usually find Betty Crocker and sometimes (depending on the shop) other American or American style baking mixes.

If in doubt you can always try eBay for all the American food types.
We just recently brought a large pack of Oreos (my 2 boys, well Alex- the little boy and Ray my husband (My big boy) love them-lol)
  Also Ray is now a big fan of Beef jerky and we've recently brought quite a few packs of jerky off eBay too- to his delight!!!
