In UK for 2 months - can I get travel insurance?
« on: January 29, 2010, 10:39:46 AM »
I am going back to the US for a few weeks for work - since I can't work here yet due to licensing red tape.  I want to get travel insurance but from what I am reading I would have to be here for at least 3 months to qualify for any.

Any one else know of a plan that would cover me having been only in the UK since December?

Thanks :)

Read the fine print and call the company directly and make sure you get everything in writing. You are likely to pay a higher premium too.

I needed travel insurance upon arriving here, so I've done this. Among your best options, depending also on age, and I have not read the recent fineprint, but someone once told me that STA might offer what you need.

In all likelihood, you'll need to call places to do single trip insurance--as opposed to paying for annual coverage like many folks do. I know Aviva will do it--but with higher costs as noted by Olive. But, I'd also call Directline. (I did it through Aviva--but in connection with my bank and with other perks... and they just changed these rules last month...argh)

You absolutely MUST call. Do not fill out an online form and think it's ok. Because there is a lot of fineprint, and in this situation you need to speak with an agent.

Best of luck and do let us know on this thread how it is resolved.

It's worth calling, but the STA website states that their insurance is only available to UK residents or those who have been in the UK for a minimum of 3 months... if the OP has only been in the UK since December and is travelling before she has been here for 3 months, then she may not be able to take out STA insurance.
