US driver's license
« on: May 03, 2010, 11:55:40 AM »
Hello. Does anyone know if I can buy a car in the UK with my US driver's license? I've been living here for six years and have never driven in the UK. My husband wants me to buy a car and drive it to Europe. Thanks.

Officially you can't drive on your US license after being here for 6 years.  You may not be able to get insurance and even if you do, it won't be valid, so if you have an accident it would all come out of your pocket.

That's "officially" as in "you'll be breaking the law if you do"...

By six years, I think you mean twelve months. =)

^^ Thanks for clarifying!  ;D For the briefest of moments, I had a fleeting fantasy that everything I'd read before was wrong and that maybe, just maybe, I (having been here for 18 months) could legally drive.  And then the moment passed.   :P

Thanks, that was an easy one! I knew about the twelve month rule- let's say you've helped settle a bet.

False information removed, it was most likely signature spam, thanks for reporting. :)
