Here and sad...

We are finally here and getting ready to move into our apartment and I'm already sad and feeling a little depressed it so hard moving to a new country and getting settled. This is my second European stop in 2 years so its easier than first leaving the states. But..it seems harder here.. hearing English and missing home.

Sorry to hear that you are homesick. Many people feel that way, especially during the first few months. It takes time to get used to a new place. Hang in there.

Good luck!!! I hope everything gets better! Ill be in the same boat in about 6 weeks. Happy and sad at the same time.

Thanks for all the comments. I must say the people are friendly the hardest part about leaving home is missing all of the small things you used to take for granted.

Wishing you a smooth transition and know that it's part of the journey and will get better.  Do those things that comfort you and add to your daily happiness while you're getting your feet on the ground.  Know that it will get a bit easier everyday as you learn more about your surroundings and become more familiar with the UK.

It was tough for me after my initial excitement of living somewhere else because people spoke English and there were quite a few 'American' things around like fast food restaurants and some American tv etc.  I felt confused and a little frustrated (I don't know if this is sounding familiar or not, but I hope it's helpful).  I think it's pretty common to feel a confusing range of sad emotions, but for many it does get better.  I hope you start to feel less depressed soon.

I don't know how long you've been in the UK now but it will and does get better!!    I was feeling like you before. At first I was so excited just to be here because my DH and I were dating long distance for years and I wanted sooooo badly to be with him. So when I moved here I was on that high for awhile, then after some time passed that high went away when day to day living sets in and then you start missing America. For me the most frustrating thing was not being able to drive. I had been driving for 18 years and now I don't drive at all, so I was relying on DH a lot! Which I am not used to as I have always been a very independent woman. I still don't drive but after I got used to my surroundings and made new friends I feel right at home.

Of course there are lots of things I miss about America but England has a lot to offer too. You just have to keep an open mind and stay positive. Heck I know many people back home who would love to be living in Europe and they are so jealous!!!
