Are there any secrets to buying last minute August tickets home?

Or is it impossible to do without spending a $1000?

I'm trying to look for two tickets London to Newark August 23 to August 31.

Yes, that's all I've been able to find.  Really depressing or I would be able to get rid of two teenagers for a week.  Which might be worth it.  lol

lol elle.  I already refuse to fly BA, because of a bad experience fourteen years ago.  That would really limit my options.   

could you possibly get a cheap flight from london to dublin and then fly aer lingus?  don't know exactly what all their routes are...actually, i think they may go from london...but anyway, they are typically one of the cheapest out there.

Major Travel (www.majortravel.co.uk) has a 395 pound adult fare + 77 tax, Air Canada via Toronto.  They're also offering AA direct to JFK at 400 + 64 tax. Virgin direct to EWR at 404 + 67 tax.

Thanks Graham and suzer.  I think because it's my Mom who's offered to pay for the girls to visit and I'm converting everything into dollars is the reason I can't even look at those prices.     Maybe we'll have to put it off to the beginning of next summer when we can plan better.
