Hotel/Guest House Recommendations for Aberwystyth?
« on: April 07, 2010, 12:27:35 PM »
I have to go down to the National Library of Wales at the end of June for some research and it is located in Aberwystyth (still tongue-tied when I try to say that  :P).

Normally I would look for a hostel because I'm cheap, but there doesn't appear to be any.  I've been to Aberwystyth's website and they have some suggestions for hotels, but it's sort of overwhelming.

Has anyone here had a good experience at a hotel there and would like to share?  Or does anyone live there and know of a good place?

Also, what's worth doing as far as sightseeing is concerned.  It can't be all work and no play!

Thanks in advance!

I pronounce it Aber-ist-with.

This is a college town so there should be something. You may try self catering cottages which normally charge by the week but at this time of year they normally have 'short breaks'

I normally (once) stay in a village/town south of there called Aberaeron (Aber-Aron) which is were my fathers side of the family is from. We also did go to the library to do some research.

My aunt used to stay here when she went to visit my cousin at uni in Aber. But it's not cheap.

Will you have a car? If so, Aberaeron isn't a bad suggestion if you can't find anything right in Aberystwyth.

Thanks for this.  Definitely out of my price range, but it looks really nice!  We won't have a car (BF is coming with) so we have to find something sort of in town.

It seems the cheapest I'm going to find is about £50-£60 per night for a double.  That's not all that expensive normally, but, on my student's budget, it's still more than I'd like to spend considering it's a month's worth of groceries for me!  Hopefully I'll get the research travel grant I'm applying for!
