How much do you think this is worth?

We have a window in our kitchen which is locked, has been since we moved in and we don't have a key for it.

It's been annoying as this window is really the only source of ventilation in our kitchen. If we have loads of smoke, we have to open the front door.

I'm getting a couple of locksmiths in to quote us for either replacing the lock or picking the lock but how much do you think it's worth?

One person over the phone said that, without looking at the lock, it sounds like a £60 job. Does that seem high? I've never hired a locksmith before so I have no idea but paying £60 for fixing one little lock seems really high to me.

How much do you think they'd charge just to pick the lock?

Most of that is probably their call-out (or labour) fee.  Never had a locksmith to the house (only through RAC once for DH when he was out on the moors & locked the keys in the car, which was through our breakdown cover).  Whenever I've had someone - like a plumber, drain-unplugger-man, etc to the house for the first time, it's usually around £50 just for the call-out fee.  

We usually get three quotes for something, then go with either the lowest or the middle one.
