I read this very informative post about how to file up to line 22
http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=61124.0So thank you very much for that information but this is where the disagreement begins with my husband and I.
I felt that if line 22 is zero that meant that there was basically nothing to file (other than putting zero on everything). In a manner of speaking you aren't really earning stateside that entitles you to get any deduction. Is that correct?
My husband felt that the instructions would say to stop filing and skip to the end if it. However when i go to his route, I end up getting a massively large negative number when you get to the standard deduction and that doesn't seem right.
So are we missing an important step here?
Also, in that same token, if you are deducting all of the foreign wages, would you not be entitle to the tax credit information on 1116 because you have already deducted your foreign wages?
Any help to clear up this confusion woudl be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
