Hello!
We are completely our London relocation move next Wednesday to a lovely flat in Hampstead.  Anyone here settle in that neighborhood?  I would love to hear some info (positives and negatives) about the area.  Good restaurants, toddler playgroups (we have an 19 month old son), things to do, ect...
Getting nervous but very excited!
Thank you!!
Natalie

Hampstead is lovely and absolutely heaving with young families.  I don't know of any specific playgroups, but most of the libraries will run free Rhyme Times on a weekly basis.  There is a Camden library right near Keat's House.  Try checking out what day they do a Rhyme Time.    I know there is a popular music class a bit further afield in Hampstead Garden Suburb.  It might be called Monkey Music.  It may be a bit of a walk for you depending on where in Hampstead you have your flat, but it's such a lovely area that it will be a nice walk.

As far as the restuarants go...Try the Creperie when the line isn't too long.  It's a "permanent" street cart that sells the most fantastic crepes.  There is almost always a line.  Cafe Rouge, Carluccios and Giraffe are great ones for kids.  They are very tolerant to messes etc.  The Old Bull and Bush is a great pub for a night out.  Fantastic food and good crowd later in the evening.  You don't get many young kids or rough types.  I haven't been on a weekend for lunch, but if it's anything like it's sister pub the Orange Tree, it will be family friendly.

Definitely check out Golders Hill Park.  It's part of Hampstead Heath, down West Heath Ave (rd?).  It has a small animal enclosure and a good playground.

Except for all the hills you will have to walk with the stroller, you will love Hampstead.

Hello and welcome.  Sorry I don't live in or near London, so I don't know about Hampstead.

Hello and welcome!

I've never lived in Hampstead, but as a former north London resident, I am somewhat familiar with the area.  I'd say it's probably the ideal area for young families.  It seemed to me to have a real community feel, lots of people out walking dogs or playing with children.  And a big plus to me -- you have Hampstead Heath right there.  It's always good for a wander and a think, I find.

I lived in Hampstead for 5 years.

The Swiss Cottage leisure centre will be your best bet for making some new friends. The library connected to the leisure centre does rhyme time on Thurs or Fri can't quite remember but I've gone with friends before and it's very sweet. The leisure centre does a gymboree style thing a few times a week, swimming lessons and they have a large indoor padded playground. If you go to reception they have a schedule of activities. St Johns Wood library also does a rhyme time that is very popular and isn't too far away.

For food, love the crepe stand. Bombay Bicycle Club is our fave indian (we still go there) and they have a delivery kitchen close by too. Dim T does fair thai food- not the best but not the worst- they do takeaways which is handy. I'm not a fan of Cafe Rouge at all. Gails does wonderful breads/muffins/treats. Base Bistro is hit or miss in regards to service. Paul does good pastries and takeaway sandwiches. The Rosslyn Deli has a section of American foods. Belsize Park (just down the hill) has some good restaurants as does St Johns Wood.

I will say the Hampstead drs fill up quickly so register right away. Keats is the one everyone wants so try there first.
