Flying During Pregnancy
« on: March 22, 2010, 05:00:39 PM »
I'll be flying back to America next week (at 23 weeks and 26 on the way back) with my 6-year-old daughter.  We have a 2hr drive to Manchester, 1-2hr flight to Munich, 9hr flight to DC and 4hr drive home.  It's going to be a long, miserable day.  My plan thus far is to pack lots of snacks for both of us, drink lots of water (which will keep me running to bathroom and keep the blood flowing), flight socks and some calf exercises (rotating ankles, wiggling toes, etc.).  Any other useful tips for flying pregnant?  I already get tingly feet and swelling if I sit still (or stand) for too long...and back discomfort.  My daughter is an excellent flier so I know she will be a big help.

Get up and move about every 45ish minutes...other than what you've already put. Just remember you can't bring large water bottles through security and I found the attendants wouldn't just give me a bottle so I bought 2 huge bottles of water after I went through security.

I flew at 25 & 33 weeks and had no problems or complications. Also hopefully you have travel insurance for any unexpected complications whilst in the US.

Sounds like you've got a good travel plan.  :D Hydration and staying active are the keys to a good flight.

I flew from Texas to Rome on holiday when I was about 24 weeks pregnant and had no problems at all. The only thing I really wished I had one was brought a meal on the plane that I knew I could eat. But that was only because I had so many nausea issues during pregnancy.   :-[ Nothing offered in-flight sounded good to me at all. Hopefully you don't have any of those problems!

Enjoy your trip!!
