Duck Eggs
« on: April 01, 2010, 12:18:29 PM »
I've bought some duck eggs to hardboil and dye for Easter. The shells look a lot thinner than a chicken egg, so I was wondering if there is anything special I should do to protect the eggs from cracking while cooking?

I read that you can make a tiny pin prick in the round end of an egg to stop it from cracking while boiling. I've never tried it myself, though.

My mom has always put vinegar and salt in the water while boiling, and started them in cold water.    I'm not sure if the idea is to stop them cracking, or make them easier to peel after they're cooked.  Maybe both.
