i've never felt so far away...
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:12:08 PM »
So I think I've been handling the move really well...been here about 5 months now, have a great job and actually just got promoted, loving newlywed life...

But everything has fallen to $hit back home. My parents haven't spoken to each other in 2 months (mind you they live together) and are getting divorced. My Mom is planning on selling the business the family has had my entire life because she can't handle it anymore. Plus her employees that she's bent over backwards for and paid more than she could afford are planning on screwing her over and opening their own business right down the street. My Dad is out of work, has been for a year. My brother didn't get into Uni. My sister hasn't had her teaching contract renewed.

It just seems like one $hit storm after another...and what makes it worse is I feel guilty because my life is actually going well...

Its all effed up.

Dont feel guilty.  Every individual has ups and downs in their lives, and are entitled to all of them.  This is a high point in your life....enjoy it.  Life is short, we must enjoy the moments when we can.  I am just getting out of a very very low point.

Your family will be fine.  Look at it this way, all that is happening now would still have happened if you were there.  You have to follow your own path in life.  Enjoy being with the one person who makes you happy.

I'm sorry that you and your family are going through this. It's hard to not feel guilty sometimes when things are going well for you but not those you love, but what has happened to them is not your fault. All you can do is offer the support that you feel able to.

Do what you feel you can to be supportive but also look after yourself. ((Hug))

Life has ups and downs - it's important to appreciate the good stuff - sometimes it can help you through the bad crap, 'cause life has a funny way of offering a variety of good and bad experiences.

Try not to be hard on yourself.

That sounds tough.  The one thing that can be hard is not punishing yourself when things are going bad at home and you aren't there to help out or support people.  You can't do it to yourself or it can make it just that much harder being here.  It sounds like you've got a good life going on here at the moment and even if you were there you probably couldn't fix it for them.  Try not to feel guilty (I know it's hard)!  Good luck and I hope your family gets back on their feet soon.

awwww Jessica (huggs) you cant change it if you were there - sure you could yell at the a$$hole employees who are taking advantage of your mom - heck send your dad down there!

Everyone takes life as it comes and yes we all say dont feel guilty which is easier said then done but I agree with you that Karma is a B$tch and what comes round goes round!

Now dont go punching anyone here! Hire that friend of yours in the states!!
