Hi! I'm a dual citizen (UK by descent) and I'm exploring the possibility of relocating to teach in England. I have a BS in Academic Studies, I'm certified to teach elementary and ESL in the state of Texas, and I'm currently working as a substitute/supply teacher. I'm 26 years old and I have lived in Austin, TX (apart from time spent at university) my entire life. I've visited the UK twice (ten plus years since the last visit) and have my mother's side of the family living in areas of Lancashire and Wales. If I relocate, I'm hoping to reside in a metropolitan area, though.
I'm aware that primary teachers are quite in as much of a demand as secondary teachers, but I don't believe I have much to lose by simply trying. I'm single with no children, but I have a dog that would most definitely be relocating with me, and I have no real roots established with my life here in the US.
I've been researching how to go about having my degree, certifications, etc. be assessed, how to write a CV, finding a teaching position, and such for the past few days. The first day I started researching, my head was spinning!
I’m not in any hurry…yes, I would love to find a teaching position for the upcoming school year and move as soon as possible, but the reality is that I need to take the time to plan well and develop a good amount of savings.
My first step before any of the real planning could begin is to renew my US passport and file for my UK passport.
I’m glad I found the forum! It’s helped to keep my head from spinning too much!
