Does anyone know anything about Wallingford?  Nice town? good schools?

If my husband has to commute 2-3 times a week to Bracknell, Berkshire would that be too far?

Does anyone do a commute through Reading?  Is Reading's traffic bad?

I used to live in Woodley - part of Wokingham District Council but actually in Reading and the traffic was always dire - the bus, taking the train, cycling or walking seemed faster.

And drivers never seemed generous - saw many, many prangs in the city centre as a result of this.

And Bracknell is not a nice place - all 1960s  nameless facelessness. Mr MLG used to work in Bracknell. Ugh.

Maybe give a few different routes / methods a try during rush hour to compare?

I know nothing of Wallingford. Sorry.

Hi there,

I can't comment on the traffic issue but my SIL and her family live in Wallingford and it is lovely. Lots of recreational space, good schools and a great town centre with a variety of chain and local shops. The parks are beautiful and tidy and there are train links to London nearby in Didcot.

I'm sorry if that was general but hope it helped a bit. Please let me know if you have any specific questions I'll be seeing my SIL this weekend and would be happy to ask her.
if it isn't one thing, its my mother . . .

Thanks both.  We're trying to figure out how far is too far for that commute.  Wallingford looks lovely based on the info online - it's helpful to know firsthand info as well.

Magna - if your SIL would avoid any particular developments/streets for renting in Wallingford that could be helpful. You can PM me if she has any that are just not where to live.  My biggest problem with walking in without too much time is that I'll end up in a neighborhood that isn't very convenient and/or has plenty of late-night whooping and hollering.

Thanks Mapleleafgirl! That's kindof what I was imagining.
