Best Primary Schools
« on: April 08, 2010, 03:54:53 AM »
One other thing - and Google's been surprisingly little help on this one. Is there a way to find the best primary schools in the whole of England? I can't really narrow it down to a single area, because we haven't really narrowed anything down to a single area. It's a subject of its own, but lord is it daunting thinking "I can live anywhere - so where will it be?" Ugh. But I digress...

Anyone? Thanks!

There are league tables around which rank primary schools in different areas of England, although I'm not sure if you can look for the whole of England, you my only be able to search individual towns/counties. Do you know if you want to send your child(ren) to private or state schools? In general, the top-ranking schools will be the private ones, but that doesn't mean that the local state schools are bad (in my county, the top-rated primary school is a Church of England, state-funded school)

You could have a look here: http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/performancetables/ and here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/league_tables/default.stm

For reviews of schools in different areas: http://www.schoolsnet.com/pls/hot_school/sn_search.obj_pls_schools_search_bymap?x=16180339&p_region_id=10

(Note: Key Stage 1 is the first 3 years of primary school (age 4-7), Key Stage 2 is the next 4 years (age 7-11) and Key Stage 3 is the first 3 years of secondary school (age 11-14))

The Times Online Education section does a good school league table and is easy to search through - you can look by area etc.
