Fiance Visa Timeline/List
« on: August 22, 2004, 06:39:59 PM »
Sorry, I know it's been covered on here before, but I can't seem to find the threads on this since there are so many topics in the visa section now.  Could someone please send me a link or point me in the right direction for what I need to have for a fiance visa sent in by post?  Also, if anyone has tips or advice on what needs to be done when marrying a UK citizen who is also a student, that would be helpful.  I know I've asked some of this before, but I'm getting really overwhelmed reading through the threads at the moment.

Thanks so much!

You might want to take a look at www.britainusa.com and www.ukvisas.gov.uk. My suggestion is that you get a co-sponsor as your fiance is a student. Maybe his parents? All they need to do is write a letter stateing that they will support you financially if he cannot, and provide their last few months bank statements. Other than that you'd need;

Two passport photos of you, face-on

Fee I think £250 in USD equivilant

Application form

Proof of marriage to take place eg cert of provisional booking for wedding, receipt for engagement ring

Photos of you two together to prove you have met, phone bills, emails, boarding passes etc (not too much stuff, just 2 or 3 of each)

Both your passports, or yours plus a certified copy of his (every page must be copied)

Statement of support from your sponsor (the Brit) that he intends to marry you within 6 months and you will live together permanently as husband and wife

Proof of your accomodation in the UK (house deed, tenancy agreement etc)

Proof you can be supported without recourse to public funds (bank statements showing his regular income, or savings for either of you).

i have a question about this need for proof of a provisional booking for the wedding.  if we are getting married by a registrar, do we need this?  i've read it's not necessary, as they don't usually give them.

I believe that's covered somewhere in "the rules".  Since most registrars won't give you anything official, you're supposed to get a letter indicating the day you've booked.  Anyone know for sure?

We had an email from the registrar stating the couldnt book the date yet...and printed it to include in our documentation and simply mentioned it in the cover letter. We had no problem.

My cover letter stated which visa I was applying for, that I'd done the online quick thingy and had already paid for it. I also listed something like a table of contents which listed every thing in the package in the order they'd find it. Last thing was all my contact info restated again should they need to reach me for anything.
