I have to admit that I've never actually tried HP sauce, even though I've lived in England my whole life, so I don't know if I like it or not :P.

It's ok.  I find it sort of bland compared to A1.  There's also a limit to what I'll put it on, but then again I'm generally pretty cautious with condiments.

It has led me to try A1 on my fries, and I really like that.  So, maybe the HP sauce will grow on me.

Love it, loved Heinz 57 in the US, and I'm 99% sure they're the same.

Bleurgh. I don't even like the smell of it.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I think it's pretty good for baking...I throw some on top of chicken or pork chops before I chuck them in the oven.  I don't really use it as a dipping sauce for though (I don't use much of any kind of sauce for dipping though).  My hubby goes through an entire bottle (basically by himself) every 2-3 weeks and puts it on everything...literally, everything...he put some on top of an omelet the other day.

I grew up on HP Sauce (as it is referred to in Canada) and would eat it by the bucketload as a kid, on everything (a favourite was cob corn). I found it weird to be referred to as 'brown sauce' in the generic sense when coming to the UK. A1 and Heinz 57, though available in Canada, I don't think are as popular.

I actually prefer any hot sauce now over brown sauce, but it definitely reminds me of childhood and in a restaurant with chips, I will choose brown sauce over tomato sauce. Apparently, I am told preference for brown sauce means you are Northern and preference for tomato sauce means you are Southern in the UK.

LOVE IT!

After first trying it 10 years ago from a British Imports shop here in OKC, I swore off A1 forever.  I can't have A1 anymore; it's too sweet for me.  I like the strong vinegar flavor in HP.  We put it on mash tatties, steak, pork chops, fish, sandwhiches- everything.  My kids even like it.  I still like Hienz 57 though.  The down side to buying it here at the import store though is it cost $6 for a small bottle  :(
