Grunting
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:24:20 PM »
Both girls grunt, groan, squeak and squawk all night long. Having done a quick google search, I see that this is normal but does anyone know why they do this at night only?

During the day they'll be totally quiet except for about 10 or so minutes before they begin to wake up but during the night they BOTH do this all night long. Last night Izzie was so loud that even Jon, who is deaf in one ear and sleeps on his good ear, could hear her and couldn't get any sleep. I've begun to block the sound out and can sleep through it but it makes it difficult to get to sleep.

Also, does anyone know what is making them grunt in their sleep? I always make sure I burp them really good and keep them upright for a good 5-10 minutes after a feed to make sure they don't have any wind and they don't seem in pain, they just make a lot of noise.

It's just weird that they both do this at the same time.

No professional advice to give, but it's possibly because it's quiet.  I'd say if they're both awake they're probably just "talking" to one another and mimicking each other.  Have you tried speaking to your HV about this?

My son makes funny noises in his sleep (really loud snoring, grunting, giggling) that he sometimes doesn't make when he's awake (he laughs and giggles now that he's nearly 3 months).  My daughter as a baby wouldn't copy other babies, but my son on the other hand will cry if DD cries.   ::)

It's just babies for you.   :-\\\\

Don't worry - mine all did this when they were tiny - don't know why it's more common at night, though. Also used to fill their nappies loudly in their sleep :o

You should record it for posterity!  [smiley=devilish.gif]
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Tonight they are being very loud. I may possibly throttle one, I am so tired!

Poor thing!  You'll make it! I hear the first year is the hardest.  Which I really think is unfair, babies should be like school and you should get the easiest bits first.  ;)

Ashley - can you get a noise maker and I mean one you want to hear such as those machines that play rain or the waves?
That might help "wash" out the grunts but you would still hear a cry or turn the monitor volume down ;-)

I hope you get some good sleep soon!
