Yes I know, I'm a complete dumbass

Right, some of you might remember my "hairdye incident" a few years ago, dyed my hair, had a allergic reaction,and had to be rushed to the A&E for anaphylactic shock.

Last week, I decided to try again but be extra cautious, I didnt let any hair dye near my scalp, i left over an inch from the roots. But unfortantley ONE strand of hair touched my face and neck. next day i had a bit of a rash,so took some antihistamines. a couple days after that my face swelled up a bit and my rash leaked pus (sorry TMI). Went to the minor injuries unit. was given steriods,antihistamines and antibiotics, and have to take 11 pills a day. Well swelling is gone,rash is gone and no more pus. But unfortantley now ,where the rash was, I have very dry flakey skin on the sides of my face and neck. I dont have a follow up appointment until next week, But I am very self coinceous about and was wondering if anyone knows the best thing to use to moisturize dry flakey skin?

and NO i WILL NEVER attempt to dye my hair again! haha!

Try Aveeno...it's what our GP prescribed for DD's eczema and it works brilliantly.

I'm a big believer in Cetaphil moisturizing cream, but you can really only order it online from Amazon here in UK.  Still, in my opinion, its worth it.

Cetaphil is amazing--I like Aveeno as well.  If you don't have something like that (fragrance free, very mild) I might just leave it alone.  I have awful allergies and will get hives that then turn into dry skin every once in awhile, and it's easy to make them worse by irritating them.

I personally don't think the E45 works as well as Cetaphil. Aveeno is also good, but be sure to choose a fragrance free one, as not all of them are.

Also, maybe try Aloe gel?  Holland & Barret have it on offer at the minute.  Also, Weleda's Skin Food is super moisturising and leaves an extra barrier on the skin, but I don't know of any stores that stock it offhand.   

My health visitor gave us a bottle of Oilatum for my daughter when she was having skin problems.  It is rich and thick without all the perfumes and colours.  I've been very happy with it--liked it better than Cetaphil's lotion.  You can buy it yourself or get a prescription to pay less if anything (depending on where you live.)

IS - I do have to say you crack me up - at least you admit your a DA when it comes to this ;-)

Oh, thanks for that. We don't have a Lloyds around, though. If I were to order it online, I think it's about a quid cheaper on Amazon, so I suppose it would come down to the postage on which one is actually cheapest. Either way, the tube is small and it is pretty pricey.

I'm curious about this and may look into it. I never use the Cetaphil Lotion, though, only the Moisturizing Cream. It's very thick, as well. DH and I both use it as a facial moisturizer, but it gets a bit expensive. 

We use Oilatum in our house too. They do a really nice one just for use on your face that comes in a small tube.
Have you used almond or olive oil in the dry skin until you can get something else?
