Tax credits
« on: April 29, 2010, 08:41:56 PM »
Perhaps some mums out there with more experience can help!

I had my baby in September, filled out my tax credit form and got some tax credits (I'm a dual citizen, entitled to them, etc.)

Now we're in the new tax year and my income is different, what with being on maternity leave, I think I may be entitled to a bit more each month (used the calculator on the HMRC website.)

I phoned to tell them of my change of circumstances but they said I needed to get a 'renewal pack' first and then call them back to tell them of the changes.  Has anyone received this already? I wasn't sure if mine was late/lost/or if I need to phone to request it.

Thanks!

They can take several months to come through, from what I hear.  Someone said they sometimes receive theirs in June!  So just be patient...haven't got ours yet either.
BUNAC: 9/2004 - 12/2004. Student visa: 1/2005 - 7/2005. Student visa #2: 9/2006 - 1/2008. FLR(IGS): 1/2008 - 10/2008. FLR(M): 10/2008 - 10/2010. ILR 10/2010!!

Last year we got our renewal pack in early May...so don't panic just hang out and wait for it to arrive, as we're waiting for ours too.

Thank you-great to know!

Once again my husband is amazed at the speed of response on any range of information I need from UK Yankee. And I'm a librarian!!!

please tell me you don't have to be a ukc to get child tax credits. I have my ilr but I am the primary income as my husband is building a business and has yet to make a profit. I've not read anywhere that you do, but now I'm having a bit of a panic.

Pengi, since you have ILR you can apply for tax credits. You have no restrictions on your status in the UK which means you can claim ANY BENEFITS you need just like a British Citizen -- one of the perks of having ILR.

However if you didn't have ILR but have a spousal visa & a British Spouse your spouse still can apply for tax credits & you would be joint on the application as it's acutally one of those benefits that a non-UKC can claim if they have a British Spouse.

Have a read through the tax credits online application it will actually tell you what you would receive. Just remember that because you have ILR you are not 'under immigration control': http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx
