Applying for Child Tax Credit
« on: August 16, 2004, 11:03:18 AM »
I'm jsut confirming here (since I just got off the phone with the office) that I can not personally apply for the CHild Tax Credit or Child Benefit because I am on an FLR visa. If I was on an ILR visa, that would be different. So my husband has to do the applying. It is no big deal, just confirming that for those who are wondering. :)

Marlespo,

Can you define a FLR and IRL visa?

I am here on a work permit (inter-company transfer), so I am curious as to what tax rules will apply to me, especially since I am still (and will continue) getting paid from the US.

Thanks

FLR - Further Leave to Remain.
ILR - Indefinite Leave to Remain.

You're on a work permit, so those terms don't really apply to you right now.  ILR could eventually, but not not for another 4 years.

Ed, being on a WP you won't be able to claim the child tax credit, child benefit etc but your British partner can.

Yup, ditto what they all said. It's that "no recourse to public funds" line on your visas that means you don't qualify, but it isn't a big deal. I don't qualify so David applied, but the money still gets put into my account as I'm the main caregiver, and they give you the option of whose bank account to credit.
