Buying a gift for someone in Spain
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:23:36 PM »
My friends are getting married next month in Barcelona and I want to get them an ice cream maker. I thought I could wait until we get there and go to a department store. However, I'm not keen on hauling that thing around. I'd rather have it shipped to their home. Does anyone have any suggestions of websites? Do you think it's reasonable that I may be able to go into a department store, buy the appliance, and pay for them to deliver it?

A couple of years ago, some friends bought furniture at John Lewis and had it delivered to their flat in Paris ... so that might be an option. I don't know if Spain is too far, but if they're willing to go to France, you never know.

What about Amazon? Is there an Amazon for Spain?

google the store 'el corte ingles' , which is Spain's version of John Lewis.   search for heladora (ice cream maker), or go to pequeno electrodomesticos and find it.

Chary, I couldn't find Amazon for Spain. I searched for it too!

ncny, thanks for the tip! I have been to the El Corte Ingles website and I didn't realize it was on line with John Lewis. The problem with the site (or my language skills) is it's totally in Spanish with no option for English, so I'm afraid to buy from it.  :-\\\\ I have no idea what I'm doing. Maybe I'll go to their shop in Barcelona when we arrive.

i just checked the site, and if you go to home page, then click on ayuda (help)  that page will have an option in english.  it lists a phone number to call, so you could try a phone order? there should be someone available to speak english.

Yeah, El Corte Ingles is what you want!  :)

Yeah, I think you do want to buy in Spain since you're buying an electric item. They're on a different current, aren't they, so buying from John Lewis and delivering wouldn't really work.

Hey, is this for who I think it is? If so, give them my best wishes!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

No, I know we can't buy an electrical item and bring it over. That's why I was looking for a version of Amazon in Spain or a large department store in Spain that will ship.

Yes, it's them. Will do!  :)

Definitely!  I got my leather handbag there in Madrid, for which I got so many comments when I first came back with it.  Then awhile after I'd had it, I saw that design cropping up all over Britain!  Couldn't find one to save my life (a design that I liked!) when I was looking for one here before that & couldn't beat the price in Spain.  Although the strap buckle-y things kept catching on my hair & breaking it off, so I'm back to a really lightweight M&S bag now.  :P

I feel the need for a shopping trip to Spain coming on!  :P

After seeing a little bit of Miriam González Durántez in the press, I wanna be stylish like her.  ;D

Sadly, the exchange rate (euro to pound) is not what it was.  Between that and the volcano, we've been planning more holidays here in the UK for this year.  :-\\\\
